In this post we are going to showcase one of our entirely custom designed products. Fig.1 through Fig.8 shows our design and 3D printed prototype of a Desktop Lamp that we have been working on for the past two months. The inspiration for this lamp was drawn from the opening of petals of a rose. We wanted our lamp to have a feature where normally it looks like any other lamp, but at the push of a button it can transform into something mesmerizing. As to how this is done mechanically speaking, we will not go into the details. But simply speaking, small N20 DC geared motors turn a central screw mechanism that vertically actuate a central plate connected to the four ‘petals’ of the lamp. The movement of the central plate then either pulls the ‘petals’ open or pushes them closed depending on the direction of movement.
